Food and Drink is the necessity of life. You cannot survive without food and drink. You need to consume food so that you get energy to go ahead with your daily routine. Similarly you need to drink at least eight to ten glasses of water to keep the toxins flushed out of your body and to remain hydrated.

The basic food that you eat should consist of proteins and vitamins, fat and carbohydrates. You cannot live without vitamins as they are very essential ingredients for the growth and development of the body. The basic food that you eat has natural vitamins. Vitamins are of two types. They are fat soluble and water soluble vitamins.

You can eat plenty of fresh food and also frozen vegetables as they contain more vitamins. Fat soluble vitamins are A, D, E and K. These will be available in meat products, animal fat, vegetable oils, diary products and sea food. Since these vitamins are stored in the liver, it is not necessary to eat these products daily. Vitamins B, C and folic acid are
found in sea food. These vitamins cannot be stored in the body. Water soluble vitamins are to be consumed everyday as the excess passes out of the body.

Vitamins need to be taken in right proportion. They should neither be excess nor less in the body as they will cause health problems. Only those women who are pregnant and the elder people should take excess vitamins as uggested by a doctor. Vitamins B and C pass out of the body in form of urine. Hence never take these supplements on an empty stomach.

You must also drink plenty of water especially when you stay in a city where the climate is warm and hot throughout the year. Your body needs to be taken care so that it does not get dehydrated. Your skin is the largest organ in the body and it requires water. Proper intake of water will keep your body healthy and prevent diseases and heart attack. By drinking water you will get energized and remain alert. It will also burn the excess fat and help in building muscle in the body.

Live your life in a simple manner and eat a proper diet and drink water as much as you can. This will keep flushing the toxins in the body so that you remain healthy and lead a happy life.

As living organisms, we need nutrition and energy to survive. And everyone knows that there is no better way to get an adequate amount of both these requirements than through food and drink. Perhaps it is also one of the most effective binding agents among people, bringing them together regardless of race, country or culture — for the love of food is universal. This love has led to the development of innumerable cuisines around the world. Several people, in the pursuit of their love for food, travel across countries and continents, sampling and savoring national, regional and local cuisines.

The history of food forms an interdisciplinary field all by itself. It analyzes the environmental, cultural, sociological and economical influences of food. The first journal on food history was launched as recently as 1979, and the first conference (the Oxford Symposium) based on it was held in 1981. Today, the ever escalating love for food has led to publications on every aspect of it — recipes, reviews, travelogues and memoirs, to name a few. Food writing thus incorporates several traditional genres of writing depending on its intention and style. What s important to note is that food writers do not regard food as merely a substance, but more like a cultural phenomenon.

Indeed, it is obvious that cooking of food is an art — the development of gourmet food is in itself a case in point. The word gourmet refers to the art of creating fine food and drink, the kind that involves elaborate and often extravagant preparation and presentation. With several techniques, ingredients and tastes that go into the preparation of food the world over, the food industry has grown to be a massive one indeed. Try this for size — in the United States alone, food expenditure among consumers amounts to about $1 trillion per year. Catering to this mammoth demand is a food industry that employs over 16.5 million people. In the United Kingdom, the food industry is the largest manufacturing segment — it accounts for a turnover well exceeding 70 billion pounds, and employs more than half a million people. The food and drink industry here employs about 13 per cent of the people engaged in the manufacturing sector.

As one of the sensory stimuli, taste plays an extremely important role in everyday life. As food and drink evolve over time, our taste buds are learning to identify a lot more than just the standard sweet, salty, bitter, sour and savory tastes — and I don t think anyone s complaining.
